Two smugglers walk into a cantina and the first one says to the other,
“Hey nice wookiee, what’s his name?”
The second smuggler replies,
“It’s Bowdaar, he’s the meanest, baddest wookiee in the entire galaxy! What’s your wookiee’s name?”
and the first smuggler says,
“Umm, it’s Bowdaar, the meanest… baddest… wookiee in the entire galaxy.”
and then the second smuggler says,
“Awk-ward.”
I was talking to a friend the other night who loves Star Wars and RP. I don’t think she plays Star Wars Galaxies (SWG) anymore, but I know she’s tremendously excited about the The Old Republic, and I can’t help but wonder if BioWare is going to provide RPers the tools to have a truly immersive experience. Compared to SWG, I think SWTOR is going to fall way short in this department.
The companion system looks very cool, and we’ll be able to customize how they look, but at the end of the day each class has the exact same companions, and each class has the exact same story, and we’re all going to be out in the word doing the same things at the same time.
For the most part I’m a PvE questing, end-game raiding, adventure with my guildies kind of guy. I spend the majority of my time out-of-character and tend to ignore the role-playing (RP) aspects of the game.
For me seeing multiples of the same class and companions won’t bother me in the slightest, but I have to think for those that RP this will be a tough hurdle to jump.
So how about it, do you RP and are you concerned that BioWare won’t provide you with the tools you’ll need for effective RP?
May the Force Be With You!
