How’m I Doin’?

Where it all began five years ago.

On March 17th the Brew Hall will turn five. I can’t believe I’ve been at this for five years now, but then again, World of Warcraft is about to turn ten. Who could’ve thunk that? The time has flown by so fast, that in many ways, I feel more like rookie than a veteran of WoW blogging.

The Brew Hall was born while I was on vacation in St. Thomas. I’m once again on vacation in St. Thomas and, in between Margaritas, I’m doing a little reminiscing, and some thinking about the way forward.

Former New York mayor, Ed Koch was famous for standing on street corners and asking passersby, “How’m I doin’?”

So today, I stand before you on this virtual street corner and I ask you, How’m I doin’?

The Brew Hall is and will always be Hunter blog, and I believe you’ve come to appreciate that. I don’t plan on changing that, but are there Hunter topics you would like me to cover?Β One thing I will say is that I’m not a theorycrafter. I love the work that theorycrafters do, and I’m happy to talk about their work, but it’s just not my arena.

Aside from theorycrafting, are there other areas of WoW that you would like to read about here? Perhaps opinions on Garrisons, the level 90 boost, and so forth?

Do you like the tone of the posts? Am I too nice, too mean, too neutral? In real life I tend to be very non-confrontational, so if my posts read like I’m not trying to piss anybody off, that’s why. But again I ask, would you like me to stir the pot a little?

Are the posts too long, or too short? Do phrases intended to make you laugh, make you laugh? Would you like me to try and be more funny or less funny?

Do you want more images in posts, or do you not care? Are you dying to see a picture of my hairy wrists? Do you want to see more Internet memes, or do you find that they’re overused and you’re sick of them?

Is the site easy to use? Do you have trouble commenting on posts due to captcha? Do you find the posts worth commenting on at all? Perhaps you don’t like to comment on any blog? Do you subscribe to the RSS feed and just read the posts in your reader and avoid coming here at all?

I track a lot of blogs via RSS, and I love hit, however, it also prevents me from going to those sites and commenting.

I don’t need comments, but the goal here it to engage you in discussion, and to get you thinking. So I ask again, what types of posts get your juices flowing and your gears turning?

I started this because I love my Hunter. The goal was to teach, to learn, and to discuss. I still want to do that, so I ask you, how’m I doin’?

The gates are open!

  1. Happy Anniversary! I’m missing the podcast, but I’m liking that you seem to be writing more here. Your tone is good — you should write like you (if you know what I mean). So, how you doin’? I think you’re doin’ fine. πŸ™‚

    1. Thanks. I miss the podcast too, and that’s a big part of why I’m writing more. The podcast was sort of blog crutch. I’d think of something to write, but then I’d get lazy and say, I’ll just talk about this topic on the podcast instead.

      Thanks for reading!

  2. Happy Anniversary πŸ™‚

I think you’re doing great, and I’m so glad you’re still here writing for us. Recently checking through my Feedly I realised that from the original set of blogs I read you’re the only one still going, and still going strong! I miss the podcast too, but I’m just grateful you didn’t follow suit and retire as everyone else did.

Your writing style is great so keep writing as yourself πŸ™‚ I’d like to see more “tips and tricks” for hunters as I need all the help I can get, so pointers to keep me away from being a full-on dingbat are always appreciated. Other than that, just more of the same is great!

Keep up the fine work, Mr Brew

    1. Thanks for the kind words. I’ll see what I can do about posting some tips and tricks.

As far as retiring from blogging, I just enjoy it and the game to much to throw in the towel. I suppose someday this will all be over, but with two more expansions in the works after WoD, I may be here a good while longer.

      Cheers!

      1. Whoa, you just typed “…but with two more expansions in the works after WoD, I may be here a good while longer.”

What? Is that right? The last thing I heard (like months ago) was somebody saying WoD would be the last ever expansion. ARE THERE REALLY TWO MORE AFTER THAT ALREADY IN DEVELOPMENT????!!!!!!!!!!

        Cool.

  3. Here’s to 5 more years! I wouldn’t change much, you’re one of the reasons I started up my own blog. As for comments, I assume this is wordpress? If you use Akismet then you don’t need captcha as it automatically filters out spam. I believe the jetpack plugin also allows users to login with their social media accounts (or maybe thats just build into wordpress now).

    1. Thanks, and I made an adjustment to make commenting easier for folks.

Eyes of the Beast is great so far. Looking forward to read all your great posts!

  4. Happy Blogiversary!

I say keep doing what you’re doing, and write about what you know and love. Even though I track the blogs I read in an RSS reader (I use and love Feedly, since Google discontinued theirs), I prefer to click on the article to read it on the source website.

    1. Thanks, and like you if I see an article I really like in my reader, I’ll usually click on the link. Unless I’m at work, where they block pretty much everything.

  5. What other hunter blogs are out there that have been going for 5+ years? You might be the old man of bloggers soon! I’m sure BRK can give you some pointers on being grumpy and pleasantly condescending to the younger generation. πŸ™‚

    1. Great to hear from you. One of the side effects of not doing a podcast is I now need to blog more to get my voice out there.

If you decide to keep playing and ever want to fire the HPP back up let me know πŸ™‚

      1. I doubt I’ll have the podcasting itch for WoW again, but I think we just have to weasel our way onto a couple episodes of Cloak & Quiver eventually. We can shoot the sh*t without the weekly hassle.
